Build within the sports arena of Qatar, THE TORCH DOHA – member of Leading Hotels of the World is an iconic 5-star luxury hotel which brings together the latest in-room technology with high-end amenities and fine dining options.
The unique structure of the hotel includes 163 rooms and suites equipped with automated iPad in-room solution, introduced for the first time in a luxury hotel in the Middle East and one of the first in the world. The revolutionary concept launched in September 2012 is a customized software which allows guests to enjoy complete autonomy inside the room with a single tap on the screen.
The new service was introduced in order to establish the property’s ability to innovate and position itself as a 5-star luxury hotel equipped with the latest technology. The hotel became proactive through focusing its entire concept on pioneering the customer engagement technology in the hospitality industry in Qatar and worldwide.
The iPad solution has been introduced in collaboration with Aspire Zone Foundation IT Department and Aspire Katara Investment, in coordination with the hotel’s IT department and one outsourced supplier. The total cost of the realization of the concept is above 1 million US dollars.
Hotel guests are able to control all room features from the iPad including: orders from in-room dining – while saving on printing restaurant menus, mood lighting system & ceiling lights control, open and close the curtains, change room temperature, control the TV. In addition, they can browse the internet on iPad and TV, listen to music and radio, place DND and make-up requests, read newspapers online and avail of utilities such as weather and time widget, Quibla prayer direction and alarm clock. The unique software is accessible in both English and Arabic.
The hotel’s vision focuses on guest convenience and speed of service while streamlining the operation. In March 2013 the exclusive iPad in-room solution has been upgraded, while adding extra features as hotel special offers and hotel general information, a pillow menu, access to local visitor information and 2500 online publications.
The custom-built software allows for better understanding of guest preferences and better communication between guests and staff members.
All iPad preferences are saved in the guest profile and serve as valuable information upon return - a great loyalty tool for repeat guests.
The Hotel’s IT department has greatly contributed to the installation and management of the iPad Solution, as the software integrated all in-room electronic components - of different brands - with a central control, the iPad. During the installation stage, the IT team ensured the amount of civil work is minimal, considering the fact that the system was installed during hotel full operation.
The automated system has received excellent feedback within the last two years, sustained by online guest reviews, international hospitality awards, travel blogger reviews and social media reports provided by Medallia and TrustYou. Customer satisfaction was assessed through increased room occupancy levels (10.7 % increase 2013-2014), average daily rate (increase of 4.9 % 2013- 2014) and increased revenue levels.
