ACCORHOTELS - Promising Design
A new source of inspiration: AccorHotels group calls for design students’ talent to think over tomorrow’s hospitality.
Faced with clients seeking for extraordinary experiences and memorable emotions, increasingly experts, faced with new performers on the hospitality market, AccorHotels group commits itself to get off the beaten track to surprise and attract its clients.
Based on this ambition, AccorHotelsDesign & Product Solution teams started looking for new inspirations among design students.Who could imagine better and think over tomorrow’s hospitality than these budding talents? The approach also addresses the group intention to help young people and to ease their occupational integration.
The starting idea is quite simple: discover new talents and get inspired by new and fresh visions, freed from existing practices in the hospitality and corporate worlds.
The methodology is just as simple: organize a big consultation among students, with the help of European design schools, previously contacted and selected. This consultation would be completely integrated into the students schooling obligations and schedule.
Two topics were submitted to the students in December, 2015 and January, 2016, linked with two central issues of the economy segment hospitality. Co-written by the Design & Product Solution, the Marketing and the Consumer & Market Insights departments, the following briefs were detailed and clear:
o Imagine the future ibis room for millennials
o Reinvent hotels basic functionalities for ibis Styles
For five months, the students imagined and proposed their projects and answers to these questions, under the Design & Product Solution teams supervision. Working and exchange sessions were indeed organized.
And results were really impressive. Students demonstrated a great sense of creativity while showing an unquestionable professionalism. Deciding between all projects thus turned out to be a difficult exercise. 82 proposals were presented for the first subject, 14 regarding the second topic… but in both cases, we needed a sole winner.
To make the final decision easier for the grand jury, projects were first submitted to a preselection, led by the Design & Product Solution team and assisted by an on-line vote within AccorHotels Millennials Community.
The final jury(May, 31st and June, 4th) eventually appointed the winners:
o Maxime Jouet (Ecole Bleue) – Evasion Room
o Louis Bouxom& Arthur Delassus (Ecole Bleue) – Les Bivouacs Project
We were initially expecting interesting ideas and orientations. We eventually received professional and strong proposals, incredibly relevant and exploitable. To the extent of finally deciding to realize some of the projects full-size and unveil them to our clients. The evasion room will thus be built in the ibis Paris Bercy hotel from September. Public will have the chance to discover it from January 2017.
And this is not all…
Based on this successful experience and eager to support tomorrow’s talents, AccorHotels group will renew the approach in 2017 and isthinking about broadening it to the Asian and American continents. For sure! Nice and fresh surprises are yet to come!
