Maren SCHELLENBERG

My name is Maren Schellenberg, born on August 26th 1987 in Wolfsburg, Germany, head of the Convention & Group Sales department of the newly opened Steigenberger Hotel Am Kanzleramt in Berlin. Since the opening on May 1st, 2014, the Steigenberger team, under my department management, welcomed about 9.000 convention and banquet participants as a result of a successful preopening campaign.

Prior to becoming head of the Convention & Group Sales department I gathered experience in the Steigenberger Hotel Herrenhof in Vienna. After my start as a Banqueting Service Supervisor I was further promoted to a Convention Sales Coordinator, and onwards to a Convention Sales Manager.  With my experience of the day-to-day challenges in hospitality business I acquired the abilities of understanding customers' perceptions of product value and accurately aligning product prices, placement and availability. During this time I was awarded the Egon Steigenberger Award because of my high potential leadership skills.

My range of knowledge concerning hotel management and economics is based on a dual study system university education at the Duale Hochschule Baden-Württemberg, Ravensburg.

Taking into account the recent opening as the head of the department, I am not only proud of the respectful working atmosphere that we have established but moreover, of exceeding the set budget accumulated. Furthermore, I take pride in pursuing a management position at the age of 27 that requires leadership performance and colleague development. In addition a well-balanced responsibility assumption is necessary to live up to the demands of customers and higher management levels in questions of varying interests.

Personally I seek the goal of a career advancement that consists of handling, rising above and overcoming advancing challenges. Ultimately I will emerge strengthened in both personality and professionalism, no matter how intense the challenge. This will help me to have a more complete development of my career in the hospitality industry. Within the next years I will lead my department into operational excellence in advising, selling and servicing to become acknowledged as the best local meeting facility.  Subsequently we aim to achieve a superior economical performance in the upcoming years. 

I am convinced that as part of the Steigenberger Hotel Am Kanzleramt, we will gain the market leaders position within the benchmark. As important the goals and challenges mentioned above are for themselves, as important is the consciousness of enjoyment to be challenged as well.
