Saudi Management Training Programme

SMTP in a nutshell: • 1st Hospitality apprenticeship programme launched in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) (blended learning approach with courses, operational exposure and development experiences); • 1st Hospitality Management programme exclusively dedicated to Saudi Nationals • 1st Hospitality programme offering a guaranteed development along with a career path The SMTP is a unique approach to developing the national workforce of Saudi Arabia in a conjoint initiative fully supported and financed by the managed hotels, the Academie Accor and the KSA HR team with the full endorsement of the Saudi Ministry of Tourism ( the Saudi Commission for Tourism and Antiquities)

KSA has fast growing population and the travelling industry, may it be religious tourism or business travel is booming, has the potential to provide a large number of jobs in various fields. The footprint of Accor in the Kingdom is growing and as a citizen company, it is our duty and responsibility to train the local population – who is very little aware about our industry and usually has even a very negative perception of it - for the sustainability of our business. That is why the SMTP was launched in November 2013, to provide a unique approach to talent development and rapid career enhancement to talented Saudi Nationals.

Organisation of the SMTP:

·         15 participants have been selected all over Saudi Arabia by Accor GMs and experts

·         50% of candidates were freshly graduated from university, 50% were recruited internally

·         The programme & curriculum were created in coordination with the Academie Accor

·        The programme has started in November 2013 - First graduation was in June 2014 and the final one will be in February 2015

Key Features of the program:

The SMTP has duration of 15 months and includes a full academic term completed by practical training in their respective hotels.

Courses are spread over 3 periods of 2 weeks; one of these 3 periods took place in Dubai ( United Arab Emirates) where the participants enjoyed interactive sessions with all the experts of the Accor ME Head Office ( revenue Management, HR, Sales and Distribution, Finance etc…). They also were given the opportunity to visit Accor properties in the city as well as the competition.

The “academic” learning  is divided into two stages:

-          initial development of fundamental skills related to the hospitality industry

-          acquisition of essential management competencies. The aim for the trainees is to climb the corporate ladder through the development of their operational and management skills.

What is next for the SMTP:

A second SMT Programme is planned to start in 2015 with a new batch of Saudi nationals and the team is studying the feasibility to have a SMTP dedicated to ladies Saudi Nationals.
