Anton Wüstefeld – General Manager - InterCityHotel Frankfurt Airport

Anton Wüstefeld, General Manager at the InterCityHotel Frankfurt Airport, is a part of the furniture here at Deutsche Hospitality. From Pageboy to General Manager, Anton has enjoyed a career of over 45 year and played a crucial role in our success story.

Anton was born on 26 October 1953 and is married with two children. His first taste of the hotel business was as a Pageboy at the Steigenberger Frankfurter Hof, he then trained as a cook and a waiter. He discovered his talent for sales after coming top in a “Chamber of Commerce and Industry” examination, going on to study Business Administration at the Heidelberg School of Hotel Management. In 1977, he joined Deutsche Hospitality in a sales management position that proved a career springboard resulting in him becoming Director of Sales responsible for all brands, eleven offices worldwide and 120 employees.

In 1998, Anton made the decision to pursue a new challenge: Hotel Director at the two-star Steigenberger Esprix Hotel Frankfurt Airport, located at “Cargo City South” by the American airbase in Frankfurt Airport.

A hotel in serious need of a lift, Anton rolled up his sleeves and got on with it. The building was gutted – balconies cut away, walls removed – not a problem for Anton whose motto is: “If someone puts stones in your way, be smart and use them to build a staircase.” He went on to build many staircases.

The hotel was also not helped by its location. 20 years in sales had provided Anton with the perfect address book, he simply got the whole world to come to him. The first guest arrived on 1 March 1999 and many more followed, with a large number of repeat visitors. 250 rooms became 300 and the plan is to create 400 new rooms to coincide with the opening of Terminal Three.

This unknown, delapadted two-star hotel has now become a familiar four-star establishment that is a part of the Frankfurt Airport scene. The success story continues despite the departure of the Americans and renaming as an InterCityHotel. This hotel has a unique atmosphere and staff have an instinctive sense of what guests want. Binoculars are provided in the rooms for guests to watch the aeroplanes and it was the first in the group to install bees on the roof. The honey produced is served at breakfast and also acts as a special VIP gift.

A man with a big heart who is just as committed as his staff to achieving their goals. Anton is heavily involved in social projects and has interests in many charities. He is also very active within the hotel business, working in various associations to improve general conditions in the hospitality and tourism sectors. Since 2013, he has been Vice President of the Frankfurt Hotel Alliance. In 2015, he took on responsibility for social activities within the group.

We are lucky to have Anton, he is a loyal employee, a driver of success, a figurehead and a role model for us all.
