The project:

At Hyatt, we are dedicated to empowering people and creating new opportunities. Staying true to our purpose of caring for people so they can be their best, we have partnered with community organizations worldwide to help young individuals reach their potential. In October 2018, Hyatt launched RiseHY, committing to hire 10,000 Opportunity Youth by 2025. These are young people aged 16 to 24 who are disconnected from the economy, either not working or attending school.

The hospitality industry is uniquely positioned to help individuals rise from entry-level roles to lifelong careers. Despite travel and tourism providing 1 in 10 jobs globally, many in underserved communities lack access to these opportunities. Youth under 25 face significant employment challenges, with a global unemployment rate of 13%, three times higher than adults.

In France, an estimated 1.4 million Opportunity Youth live, prompting Hyatt Hotels in France to partner with "Les Déterminés," an organization led by Moussa Camara, known for its strong reputation in underserved areas and expertise in entrepreneurship. Supported by Région Île de France, the Ministry of Labor, and the Préfecture of Île de France, the program focuses on building team spirit, developing professional and soft skills, and offering three months of vocational training in various positions.

Each participant is paired with a RiseHY Coach, a Hyatt colleague trained by Les Déterminés to support their growth. After the training, participants are offered open-ended contracts at Hyatt hotels. To date, over 70 Opportunity Youth have completed the program, with a retention rate higher than the hotel average. This initiative positively impacts not only the participants but also their families and the Hyatt colleagues involved, fostering a sense of pride and accomplishment within the company.
