The project:

Jumeirah Group has been a steadfast advocate for marine turtle conservation through its Dubai Turtle Rehabilitation Programme (DTRP) since its inception in 2004. In collaboration with Dubai’s Wildlife Protection Office, the Dubai Falcon Hospital, and the Central Veterinary Research Laboratory, the program has successfully released nearly 3,000 turtles back into the Arabian Gulf, rescuing over 100 endangered turtles annually.

Aligned with the UAE's National Plan of Action for the Conservation of Marine Turtles, DTRP supports initiatives by the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment (MOCCAE) to protect these endangered species from growing threats. The program provides comprehensive care for injured and sick turtles, rehabilitating them at the sea-fed turtle lagoon in Jumeirah Al Naseem, the region's largest purpose-built facility of its kind.

To enhance community engagement and education, Jumeirah Group collaborates closely with marine conservation champion Sheikh Fahim Al Qasimi, who serves as an Ambassador for DTRP. Sheikh Fahim actively supports the program’s role in implementing national conservation plans and participates in MOCCAE’s Rescue and Rehabilitation working group. The establishment of the toll-free hotline 800TURTLE further empowers the public to report distressed turtles, underscoring community involvement and support.

Recently, DTRP expanded its impact through a Memorandum of Understanding with the Fujairah Environment Authority and Fujairah Research Centre, under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Mohammed Al Sharqi. This partnership aims to bolster turtle rehabilitation, research, and habitat restoration efforts, extending the program's reach and effectiveness in marine conservation.

Moreover, initiatives like Turtle Tea by Idriss B at Jumeirah Al Naseem promote awareness and contribute to DTRP’s conservation efforts, illustrating Jumeirah Group’s commitment to protecting marine wildlife and fostering sustainable tourism practices.
